Las muertas de la frontera
Quiping Las muertas de Juárez -familiar terms that allude to a long list of
murdered women in the border town of Juárez-, Las muertas de la frontera wanted to honor the memory of
those who died trying to find a better life -in search of the American Dream-. There was a time when most immigrants were
males and when women were left behind to care for the family. Today, as the number of women has increased, so have the crimes
committed against them, like rape, human traffic, prostitution, sex slavery, etc...
Polarization and civil unrest reflects this struggle taken “beyond death”.
Las muertas de Juárez, along with the Mexican workers death in the Arizona desert, the victims of heat
and intolerance are women whose death reveals the misfortune of the working poor, often living in crime ridden areas, the
victims of corrupt authorities.
