This outdoor altar, hosted by Capital Real Estate on 1940 Market Street, was dedicaded
to Lilia Carrillo, Ángela Peralta y Gertrudis Bocanegra, outstanding Mexican women
Quiping a saying
that stereotypes women as incapable of being solidarian and loyal to each other, we dedicated this altar to three who excelled
in showing us the way to defying those negative roles. The women: Gertrudis Bocanegra, human rights activist
of Colonial Mexico; Angela Peralta, opera singer known as the Mexican nightingale, a young star
of La Scala; Lilia Carrillo, abstractionist painter of La Ruptura. We carefully placed alongside
flowers, candles, skulls, and alegrías; brushes, paint, books, music sheets, a guitar, a music stand. Those
dear objects were there to make our honored women feel at home and to recreate for our daughters and grand daughters the world
that let those icons turn things around for themselves and others to come...
