Michel Foucault in one hour
March 20, day before the Spring Equinox and not long after a 7.8 earthquake in Mexico City.
(It really happened in two, plus a one hour aftermath)

Let Mots et les Choses. Une archéologie des Sciences Humaines/ Las palabras y las cosas

Texto en español.

In talking to the students after class we commented how part of the heterotopia that is the border encompasses the relationships and interactions that defy borders in general. Not as seen through the lens of a misunderstood "legality" but as part of the reality that is produced by human interactions. And as there are protective regulations and treaties for the migration of birds... shouldn't there be protective regulations and treaties to guarantee the safety of human beings connecting from community to community... Let´s begin by saying that "border", whether virtual or real; whether politicized or turned into an item of culture and myth is more a "boundary" much like Ambrose Bierce wrote in his devil´s dictionary

BOUNDARYn. In political geography, an imaginary line between two nations, separating the imaginary rights of one from the imaginary rights of the other.

Interesting New York Times article on students crossing the border.
