I created
this video with images taken from Pueblo San Diego, known today as Old Town. This town flourished from 1821 till about 1875.
While most people are prompt to assume San Diego was a Spanish town, it was a Mexican Town, built by people whose blood was
mixed and whose ideals were to be independent from the corrupt and intolerant Viceroyalty of New Spain. Trade and open borders
were beginning to thrill a local population that wanted to connect the independence ideals with the new realities. And that
new order came, only not for the best... The music added to this video is typical of Northern Mexico's Nineteenth Century.
The singer is Soprano Sonia Medrano with Luis Díaz Santana at the guitar. Permission was granted by Luis Díaz
Santana. No reproduction is allowed.
